If you’re like most people, you’ve probably never tried strength training with weights. In fact, doing so might even be very intimidating to you, and seem like a good way to guarantee you’re going to get injured. In fact though, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Read on for 3 important reasons you should try the deadlift, and consider seeing one of CSC’s personal trainers to learn how!
Reason 1:
The deadlift is a movement that involves lifting a weight from the ground, which will teach you how to do this safely throughout the rest of your life. Developing good habits such as a proper deadlift in the gym will prevent injury outside of the gym. Ever heard the expression “lift with your legs, not with your back”? Deadlifting is the best way to learn how this actually feels and develop the habits to do it properly.
If you learn to deadlift well, you will find that your increased strength and smarter movements will make many other actions throughout life easier for you.
Reason 2:
The deadlift is the most powerful movement our bodies are capable of.
It recruits the largest muscles in our bodies – the hamstrings and the gluteus – the backs of our legs and our butts respectively. This allows us to move more weight than any other movement, and will therefore use more energy and help us build more muscle than any other movement when done right.
Reason 3:
Building muscle is the most effective way to burn fat.
Expanding on reason 2 a little further, we can argue that the deadlift is the most effective movement for building muscle, which in turn will increase our ability to burn energy while resting and lower our excess body fat. Whether your goal is to lose weight or get stronger, building your hamstrings and glutes will absolutely help you achieve your objective.
While the deadlift is a relatively simple movement and easy to teach properly, it is also very easy to do incorrectly and the classic movement may not even be appropriate for your body. It will be easy for CSC’s coaches to make modifications for each person’s flexibility and body type and teach you to progress safely and effectively as you learn to deadlift, and you will see results. Try booking a couple of training sessions to learn to deadlift, and you’ll add a great tool to your training arsenal to accelerate your body transformation!
